Hello again!
It has finally arrived. The Huion H420! Its much smaller than I expected but I also wanted a smaller tablet than what was available for the convenience of portability. Plugging it into my linux machine, it instantly worked! It also was detected as a mouse. I hope there is a way to bind it strictly to a window in OSX or a way to configure it in linux. I wasn't expecting it to work instantly just like that. I think that I will use it in linux to start and as I get more comfortable with the tool I will move to a smaller screen. This may be a year or two down the line so I might have a better mac by then and another 1080p screen for the station for my mac!
I have a few buggaboo's though. Its a lot thicker than I thought, so unless I use my left hand or put my hand on the edge of the tablet in its deadzone I hit the edge and bump it. Not great. But its meant to sit like on the palm rest of a laptop and be used with your hand not really on the surface. So theres that to get used to. Otherwise I am relatively happy with it. I will start on basic shapes just like I would with a normal pencil and such and move up from there.
Next post I wight have a scribble sheet as well.
I am also learning about how digital artists work. I always wondered why they didn't work at screen res sizes like 1920X1080 anrd such. Well, its easier to have a giant canvas to work on than it is to have a tiny little box. It really does feel like scribbling on a sticky note if the canvas in GIMP is set to something like 1280X720 at 100% zoom. I think that a bigger canvas as well as some sort of DPI control, not to mention binding the tool to a window, would help me a lot. When I put the pen down on the tool it will jump to somewhere on my workspace and since my totoal working res is 3800X1080 it is a bit fidgety. Just have to figure that out. I might also just use a laptop, which I am actually doing some work on a macbook right now to run linux (Salix) at the moment, so that I have one singular space to work in. That bit will probably go in the technology section when I figure out how to run 2 blogs on one site. Might have to ask Wix Support for that!
Anyways, thats where I am at. Thanks for reading!
